BURLINGTON - Mr. Carl E. Tate, known as "Tate," 72, of 1807 Lynnwood Drive, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Thursday, May 1, 2014.
A native of Surry County, he was the husband of Donna Patricia Tate, who survives, and the son of Ernest W. Tate and Elizabeth Collins Tate Goins, both deceased. Carl was raised by the late Ranzy and Hattie East when his mother became ill.
He retired as a supervisor with Copland Fabrics with over 25 years of service and later retired from Shoffner/Universal Forest Products. Carl was an avid automobile enthusiast and formerly built race cars for drag racing. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Tami Tate Reinheardt of Burlington; two sons, Cam Eugene Tate of the home and Kelly Reynolds Tate and wife Jan of Burlington; and two grandchildren, Bryce Reynolds Tate and Grace Nicole Tate. He will be greatly missed by all, especially his good friend, Ted Hall.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clark E. Tate.
A cryptside service will be conducted in the Chapel of the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, by the Rev. Don Pegg, with the family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the Mausoleum. At other times they will be at the residence of a son, Kelly Tate, 857 Indian Valley Drive, Burlington, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
