BURLINGTON - Mr. Charles Arthur Liscum, 92, died Monday, July 8, 2013 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Center Moriches, N.Y., Mr. Liscum was the husband of the late Marion Carr Liscum and Gertrude Todd Barney Liscum, who survives. He was the son of the late William Benjamin Liscum and the late Alice Blanche Tidnam Liscum.
Mr. Liscum was a retired Mechanical Engineer and had worked for Bell Labs and AT&T-Lucent. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Burlington-Graham Engineers Club.
He was a World War II
veteran of the U.S. Navy
and he was a member of the State Chapter of the American Legion. Mr. Liscum was a member of the Elon Community Church. He was a former Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his wife, Gertrude, of the home, survivors include son, Jeffrey C. Liscum and wife Diane, of Marietta, Ga.; three daughters, Ellen B. Williams and husband Douglas of Raleigh, Lynn B. Denny of Greensboro and Susan B. Hanley and husband, Joe of Glen Allen, Va.; eight grandchildren, Catherine Liscum Gordon and husband David, Charles Liscum and wife, Courtney, Lesli Arrington and husband Bob, Bradley Denny, Leigh-Ann Denny, Caitlin Williams, Lauren Hanley and John Hanley; and two great-grandchildren, Calli Arrington and Graham P. Gordon.
In addition to his first wife, Marion, and parents, Mr. Liscum was preceded in death by his sister, Jane McNaney; and a great-grandson, Will Arrington.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 12, 2013, at 4 p.m. in Elon Community Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Sharon Wheeler and the Rev. Randy Orwig. The family will receive friends after the service in The Community Life Center at the church.
Burial will take place at a later date in Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association of Center Moriches, N.Y.
