BURLINGTON - Mr. Darrell Gene Mansfield, 83, of Maple Avenue, Burlington died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband for 62 years to Bonnie Herring Mansfield, who survives, and the son of Roy Ernest Mansfield and Margaret Campbell Mansfield, both deceased. Darrell was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps
serving during World War II
and retired deputy for the Alamance County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Darelene Mansfield of Fort Mill, S.C.; granddaughter, Cristy Hall and husband Mark of Trinity; three great-grandchildren, Danielle Leonard and husband Ryan, Jordan Hall and Cory Hall of Trinity; and sister, Eleanor Brooks of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel "Danny" Gene Mansfield; sister, Ernestine Butler; and two brothers, Jimmy Mansfield and Edgar Mansfield.
The funeral service will be conducted at Bellemont United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Farron Duncan. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
