David Shawn "Shawnee Boy" Tomb Jr., one week shy of 29 and of 5202 Thompson Mill Road, Graham, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at his grandparents home.
A native of Alamance County, Shawn was the son of the late David Shawn Tomb Sr. and Cindy Fitch Wilson and his step-father, "Daddy H." Henry (H.W.) Wilson III.
Shawn is a 2006 graduate of Hugh M. Cummings High School. He participated in Little League baseball when he was younger and most recently participated for 3 years in the Special Olympics
in swimming events.
In addition to his mother and step-father of the home, Shawn is survived by his brother, John Christopher Tomb and his wife, Victoria, of Burlington; his step-mother, Nita Tomb of Burlington; half sister, Mandi Tomb and half brother, Alex Tomb, both of Burlington; maternal grandparents, John "Sonny" Fitch and Patsy Fitch of Burlington; paternal grandmother, Mary Ellen Tomb of Burlington; paternal step-grandparents, Henry Wilson, Jr. and Estherena Wilson; aunt, Amy Coleman; uncle, Rodney Wilson; aunt, Jennifer Lambert; nephew Jeremiah Lugo; great-aunt, Yvonne Dodson and her daughter, Lisa, of Burlington and many other beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Shawn was also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Joseph Tomb.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington. Other times they will be at the residence of the grandparents, John "Sonny" Fitch and Patsy Fitch, 1314 Greenbriar Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
A funeral service will be held Monday, June 16, at 11:00 am in the Rich and Thompson Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Larry Parsons. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Duke Cancer Institute Office of Development, 710 W. Main Street, Suite 200, Durham, NC 27701.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the ninth floor nursing staff of the Duke Cancer Center for the wonderful care that they gave to Shawn during his times of illness.
