WALNUT COVE - Edward S. Long, 93, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 12, 2013 at Wellington Regional Hospital in Palm Beach, Fla.
He was born Feb. 25, 1919 in Germanton, Forsyth County, to Edward A. and Sarah E. Styers Long. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church in Burlington, N.C. and was retired from Western Electric as an engineer. He attended Campbell University and was an Alpha Kappa Beta member. Edward loved coin collecting and attending his church whenever possible. Mr. Long served his country proudly in the U.S. Army.
A 2:30 p.m. graveside service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Germanton Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Lattimore officiating with military honors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Ruby Teague Long, two brothers, John Andrew Long and William Phillip Long, and one sister, Lucy Rebecca Long.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Perry of Florida, two nieces, Linda Masorli and Sandra O'Dea, one nephew, Edward A. Long, and several great-nieces and nephews.
