Edna Ray Bradsher Chacey died at Person Memorial Hospital on April 14, 2013 after several years of declining health. She was born on Oct. 28, 1917, in Wilson, N.C., the oldest child of the late Jacob Thompson and Emily James Bradsher.
Most of her childhood was spend in Milton, N.C. She graduated from high school in Oxford, N.C. She attended Flora McDonald College, graduated from UNC-CH and from the University of Mississippi. She taught in Sanford, Lexington and was a guidance counselor at Alamance Community College for many years. She traveled widely in her late years.
Ella Ray was preceded in death by her son, Franklin Bradsher Chacey; brothers, J.T. Bradsher Jr. MD, James Franklin Bradsher who died in World War II and Ronald Sutton Bradsher.
She is survived by a brother, Sidney Bradsher and wife Frances of Wilmington; sisters, Jean B. Scott of Milton and Martha B. Spencer of Raleigh and by a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
The funeral will be held from Milton Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Ryan Gabriel on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Burchwood Cemetery, Roxboro.
