MEBANE - Emma Louise Norris Cook died on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Peak Resources, Alamance, after several years of failing health.
She was born in the Bethel community of Watauga County on Sept. 21, 1929, to Conley M. and Jennie A. Norris. She married Dallas Houston Cook in 1947 and they moved to the Orange County area in 1956.

She also was an avid quilter, having made quilts for her nine children, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was well-known for her love and care for babies and children in the Oak Grove community. She was caregiver to many and was affectionately called "Mama Cook." Dozens of children spent the day with her while their parents were at work.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Linville, Loyd, Lonnie and Jake; one sister, Minnie Lucille; daughters, Crystal Lynn Cook and Johnsie Cook Smith; and a grandson, Richard Dwayne Cook.
Her loving survivors include her husband, Houston Cook; children, Gail Gibbs, Donna Simmons (Robert), Frieda McLendon (Mike), John Cook, James Cook (Debbie), Robert Cook (Debbie), Doug Cook and Dianne Cook (Barry).
