Gattis Byrd

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mr. Gattis "Rabbit" Byrd, 90, of 4166 N.C. 119 North, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at his residence.
A native of Alamance County, Mr. Byrd retired from Kingsdown following 40 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed farming. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Dodson Byrd, of the home; sons, John Byrd (Jackie), Michael Byrd (Sharon) and Tommy Byrd (Jennifer), all of Burlington; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Harrison and Georgeanna Byrd; sisters, Frances McAdams, Gladys Bowman, Pauline Davis; brothers, Clyde and James Byrd; and a grandson, John Albert Byrd Jr.
The funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by Alan Jones and the Rev. Rick Webster. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service, and at other times at the residence. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Christian Church cemetery.
