WASHINGTON, D.C. - Mrs. Helen Frances Woods, 90, of 1053 Crittenden St. NE, Washington, D.C., died on March 3, 2014, at Pine View Nursing Home, Clinton, MD.
She was born in Caswell County and was the daughter of the late Mrs. Mamie V. and Mr. Henry W. Jones and the wife of Mr. William L. (Bill) Woods of Accokeek, MD.
Survivors include four children, Patricia Y. Jones of Accokeek, MD, Minister Theresa E. Wright (Walter) Fort Washington, MD, Michael L. Woods (Eula) Upper Marlboro, MD, Denise Michelle Robinson, Fort Washington, MD; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; four sisters-in-laws; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, a magnitude of friends and a devoted and a caring church family.
She was preceded in death by her late brothers and sisters, as follows: Herman L. Jones (Dorella), Beatrice L. Bigelow (William), Willie H. Jones (Nettie), Jerry W. Jones, and Della Mae Williams (Bruce).
Helen was a licensed cosmetologist and was employed by the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles as an Information Specialist. Helen was a very happy, active, family-oriented and well-rounded person who never found any task too difficult. It was said that, "She never let grass grow under her feet." She enjoyed being a cosmetologist/entrepreneur. Helen prepared the best meals and especially loved preparing meals for out-of-town family, guests, and friends. She was especially known for her southern cooking and southern hospitality. Helen believed in strong family ties and taught her children to always "stick together."
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 pm-700 pm Sunday, March 9, 2014 in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home.
Burila will be Monday, March 10, 2014 in the Martins Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
