BURLINGTON, N.C. – Mr. Hughes J. "Dusty" Rhodes Jr., 89, died at Twin Lakes Community on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at 1 a.m.
Mr. Rhodes was a native of Alamance County and was the husband of the late Helen Frances Garrison Rhodes and the late Avril Core Rhodes. One of seven children, he was the son of Hughes Jennings Rhodes Sr. and Ethel Hotchkiss Rhodes, both deceased.
He retired from Burlington Industries as a computer analyst and was a volunteer with Alamance County Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed playing golf and woodworking. Dusty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington and also attended Front Street United Methodist Church with his late wife, Avril.
Survivors include two daughters, Ellen R. Covington and husband Donald of Rockingham and Jane R. Spoon of Graham; two sons, Hughes J. Rhodes III and wife Sally of Virginia Beach, Va. and Richard K. Rhodes of Graham; two sisters, Emily Rhodes Conn of Raleigh and Jean Rhodes Douglas of New Bern; brother, Donald Rhodes of North Wilkesboro; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. by Dr. Ronald L. Shive. A reception will immediately follow the service. After the reception, the burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
