GRAHAM, N.C. - Jane Duke Vaughn Aldridge passed peacefully into God's loving arms Feb. 3, 2014, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell.
Jane was born March 30, 1927 in Alamance County to John Duke Vaughn and Gary Etta Cates Vaughn Leonard, both deceased. Jane married the love of her life, Sylvanus "Sib" Ellison Aldridge Sr. (deceased), April 20, 1946 and embraced her chosen career of homemaker.
God and family came first and foremost for Jane. Her faith was ever present in her life and it was something she passed on to her family. Whether she was known as Mama, Mamaw, Grandma, Granny or Aunt Jane her family could always count on her for comfort, a hug, a kiss, a sweet smile and a laugh or two. The family is at peace knowing that she was ready to go to her heavenly home and she is now free of pain and suffering.
Jane is survived by her five children, S.E. "Buddy" Aldridge Jr. (Nancy) of Snow Camp, Gary V. Aldridge of the home, Nancy Annon (Jim) of Kings Mtn., Tereasa Wood (Henry) and Allene Fonville (Wally) of Graham; 10 grandchildren, Stacey A. Stallings, Christina Aldridge, Randy "Sunny" Williamson (Theresa), Becky Annon (Tim Bradley), Fran A. Woody (Charles), Amanda W. Klier (Korey), Tara Wood, Nicholas Wood (Rhonda), Michael Blackstock and Samantha B. Lauck (Ben); 18 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Jane is also survived by a brother-in-law, Herbert Lee Smith; a sister in-law, Martha Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jane was preceded in death by her stepfather, Arthur Lee Leonard; brother, Albert Jackson Vaughn Sr.; half siblings Tom Vaughn, Bob Vaughn, Carl Vaughn, Madge V. Yeoman, Lura V. Cates, Iola V. Wood and Whittey Vaughn.
Jane enjoyed hearing the Word of God spoken at The Lamb's Chapel and called it her church home.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 until 8 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham and at other times at the home.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at The Lamb's Chapel in Haw River. Burial will follow in Baynes Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
