BURLINGTON, N.C. - Joseph Robert "Bob" King, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at White Oak Manor. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 39 years to the late Virginia Urquhart King, who died in 2012.
Bob retired after 22 years from the U.S. Navy
, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II
and during the Korean War
. He was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Brenda King, of Newport, N.C.; stepson, James G. Baker and wife, Lisa of Kernersville; stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Baker, Melissa Baker and Kendra King; grandchildren, Karen (Greg) McGann and Leslie (Jason) Haizlip; great-grandchildren, Kyle Haizlip, Chyenne Haizlip and Tala McGann; brother, James Edwin King Jr. and wife Freida of Burlington; nieces, Peggy and Bobbie King; nephew, Mike King and wife Jane.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Joseph Robert King Jr.; parents, James Edwin King and Hulda Fredrick King; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph Elbert King and wife Elizabeth.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jim Mitchell. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
