Martha Causey "Marti" Morton

BURLINGTON - Martha "Marti" Causey Morton, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Feb. 13, 2013 at Twin Lakes Memory Care. She was 85.
Marti was born in Guilford County on Nov. 9, 1927 to Jesse Clark Causey and Mollie Berta Richardson Causey. She was the last of nine children. Marti married Robert "Bob" W. Morton Jr. on Aug. 22, 1948. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage until his death Oct. 7, 2011.
Marti received her BA and MEd degrees from UNC-G. She taught in schools in Alamance County for 33 years. She won Teacher of the Year Award and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Immediately after retiring from teaching, Marti entered a nursing program at ACC. She received her RN degree in 1984. Working in the Newborn Nursery at Alamance Regional Medical Center, Marti was especially thrilled to nurse babies delivered to parents whom she had taught in elementary school. Marti played a significant role to bring Hospice to Burlington and found her calling as a Hospice volunteer nurse.
Marti was an active member of Edgewood UCC, First Christian UCC, Unity, and Springwood Presbyterian Church during her life. She served her community through Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity. While an active retiree, Marti enjoyed, with her family, a mountain cottage in Sparta for 17 years.
Marti and Bob moved to Twin Lakes Retirement Community in 2001, where she remained active until her memory loss and consequent loss of abilities necessitated her move to Memory Care in 2009.
Marti glorified God every day through her love of nature, gardening, flower arranging, and compassion. She will be remembered for her ever-present smile and sincere notes, words, and phone calls of appreciation and support.
Marti is survived by her daughter, Martyvonne Nour (Sayed) of Chapel Hill; and her son, Rusty (Juanita Wrenn) of Mebane. Also left to cherish her memory are five grandchildren, Wally, Russell and Sara Nour and Anna and Travis Morton; Marti's twin sister, Mitchie Hall of Twin Lakes, Burlington; her older brother, Clark (Celeste) of Liberty; and many nieces and nephews.
Marti's family is extremely appreciative of the professional and compassionate care given by the extraordinary staff of Twin Lakes Memory Care.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes Retirement Community.
