BURLINGTON - Minister Jewell Blackwell Carmon Thaxton, 72, of 1209 N. Mebane Street, died April 25, 2013 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
She was the wife of Mr. Curtis Thaxton and the daughter of Mr. George Blackwell of Burlington and the late Mrs. Beatrice Daye Blackwell.
She was a retired seamstress and was a member of Ebenezer UCC, where she was a member in three of the choirs. Mrs. Thaxton received her Ministerial degree from Faith, Hope & Charity Inc. in Greensboro, N.C. She played softball and enjoyed fishing and bowling. She was a jack-of-all-trades.
Survivors include sons, Little Hope Junior Blackwell of Burlington and Antonio Lamont Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughters, Cheryl Denise Garner of Snow Camp, N.C. and Connie Evette Blackwell of Conyers, Ga.; brothers, Otis Blackwell and John Blackwell Jr., both of Burlington; sisters, Catherine Byrd of Winston-Salem, N.C., Brenda B. White of Burlington and Martha Ann Whitted of Texas; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Blackwell, Stephanie Blackwell, Shineece Sellars, Jacob Michael Blackwell, Jacklyn Noel Blackwell, Antonio Lamont Johnson Jr., Keianna Lachae Johnson and Milania Grace Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The public viewing will be Monday, April 29, 2013 from 1 until 9 p.m. in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington, N.C. At other times the family will receive friends at the home of Little Hope Junior Blackwell, 712 N. Main Street, Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Ebenezer UCC, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Covington delivering the eulogy. The body will lie in state from noon until 1 p.m., prior to the service, with the family arriving at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
