HAW RIVER - Mrs. Naomi Elizabeth Thompson Ray, 98, of 1771 North Jim Minor Road, Haw River, died at Peak Resources of Alamance on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at 2:47 p.m.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Dewitt "Chuff" Ray and the daughter of Samuel L. Thompson and Bertha Turner Thompson, both deceased. She retired from Drapery Boutique. After retirement, she continued her love for her creative handwork. Naomi was a member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Women's Circle.
Survivors include four daughters, Peggy Ray Stout and husband Clarence of Graham, Barbara Ray Martin and her late husband, Roy "Bo" of Winston-Salem, Joyce Ray Hamby and husband Daniel of Yadkinville and Rozelle Ray Horne and her late husband, Cecil of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; a very special and dedicated granddaughter, Melony Wade Hicks; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Ray; a sister, Mollie Thompson Snipes; and four brothers, Charlie "Capp" Thompson, Ross Thompson, William "Bill" Thompson and Tom Thompson.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at 3 p.m. by the Rev. David Ealy and the Rev. Sam Jenkins, CRE. Burial will follow in Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service and at other times at the residence of the granddaughter, Melony Wade Hicks, 1773 North Jim Minor Road, Haw River, N.C. 27258.
