BURLINGTON - Nick Collins, 89, of 2118 Walker Ave., Burlington, died Jan. 31, 2013 at The Hospice Home of Alamance after years of failing health.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia ""Kaye"" Ray Collins, in 2001; parents, Amelia and Angelo Collins; siblings, Jimmy Collins, Chris Collins and Ernestine Pefanis.
Mr. Collins is survived by daughter, Angela Kaye Collins Cinson; son Joseph Collins; grandchildren, Amber Cinson Laughlin, Shaun Cinson and Adam Cinson; great-granddaughter, Makayla Laughlin; and siblings, Thelia Bundros and husband Tony Bundros and Irene Xillas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a loyal member of Emmanuel Methodist Church and avid supporter of St. Catherine's Greek Orthodox Church. He was an avid gardener for life, a decorated World War II
veteran, member of the American Legion, past Commander of the Joseph Coble DAV Chapter, and 2008 Recipient of the State of North Carolina ""The Order of the Long Leaf Pine"" for his years of service aiding veterans. Nick was an active member of the community. He worked in the real estate business for over 40 years and was co-owner of Collins and Young.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
Prayers of Three Saints Trisagion will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Any visitors to the family will be received at the home of his daughter, Angela, 2122 Hawthorne Lane, Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Alamance/Caswell 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
