PROSPECT HILL, NC - Oscar William Gammon, Sr. age 94, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Rockingham County and the husband of Faye Cheek Gammon who survives.
Oscar retired after 30 years as the owner and operator of Oscar's Drive-In in Glen Raven. He was a former County Commissioner and former Chairman of the Board. Oscar was a member of Power Line Church of the Nazarene. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Cheek Gammon of the home; daughter, Marie Gammon Howe of Graham; sons, Oscar "Bill" Gammon, Jr. and wife Darlene of Mebane, Elmer "Pete" Gammon and wife, Almeria of Mebane, Robert "Lynn" Gammon and wife, Jeri of Mebane, Richard Lee Gammon of Burlington, Andrew "Phil" Gammon and special friend, Lisa Poole of Burlington and a special daughter-in-law, Denise Gammon of Haw River; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; one step granddaughter; step children, Kris Saunders and wife, Carrie and Tracey Saunders and husband, Gregg all of Burlington; sister, Catherine Hoyle of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Edith Shockley Gammon in 2006; daughter, Ann Shively; parents, Walter Shepherd and Dessie Strader Gammon; four sisters and 2 brothers.
The family of Oscar Gammon would like to thank the nurses and staff of ARMC and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their kind and compassionate care during Oscar's illness.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Lowe Funeral home Chapel by Rev. Darrell Kroeze and Rev. Ronald Brooks and burial will follow at Gammon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 pm on Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Pete Gammon located on Oscar Gammon Road in Mebane.
