Robert Edward Heckard, age 84, of Elon, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington.
The son of Ralph and Florence Irene Stadler Heckard, he was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Franklin, Pa. Mr. Heckard had lived in Willoughby, Ohio from 1957 to 1986, having then lived in Elon, N.C. from 1986 to present.
He had been employed as an electrician by General Motors
for many years prior to his retirement in 1986. He was a veteran of the Korean War
and served as Sergeant in the National Guard stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Willoughby Masonic Lodge #302.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Mae Glenn Heckard, whom he married May 9, 1953; two daughters, Deborah Koeth and husband Richard of Mentor, Ohio and Carol Hood and husband Richard of Twinsburg, Ohio; five grandchildren, Richard Koeth and wife Denise of Ohio, Robert Koeth and wife Kim of Ohio, Amanda Lynam and husband Garret of N.Y.; Chelsey and Kentric Hood, both of Twinsburg, Ohio; and a great-grandson, Alden Scott Koeth.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Etta Jean Rial.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Pa.
