Robert Flynn, a true child of God, entered the gates of Heaven early Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2012 at his getaway in Emerald Isle, while with his beloved wife of 49 and a-half years, Dianne Childress Flynn.
Robert has two sons, Michael Flynn of Mebane, married to Andrea, and Robbie Flynn of Burlington. Robert has three grandchildren, Brittany, Jordan, and Bryanna Flynn, whom he loved unconditionally.
Born in Orange County on Jan. 24, 1941 to Etta Cates Flynn and Clifton Flynn, both deceased, Robert also left behind his sister, Nancy Flynn Tate married to Tom; and brother, James Flynn married to Peggy.
Robert was preceded in death by his older sister, Mary Flynn Henderson; and younger brother, George Flynn; and his in-laws, Flemmie and Lorene Childress, who accepted him as their own son.
Robert's life radiated a glowing spirit that he used to guide and teach his family. He loved his wife with all his heart. In fact, rarely would you see one without the other. They were one in spirit and heart, living and teaching their children the values that they carry with them every day. Robert, known as "pawpaw" and "pops," radiated an unconditional love to his grandchildren that was never-ending.
Robert not only loved his family but was a friend to everyone - never meeting a stranger. He was a "gentle giant" who touched the lives of everyone with his kindness and helpfulness that was truly from his heart with never a moment of selfishness. His drive led him to live his life to the fullest and beyond limits that few men ever realize.
Robert was a long time member of Edgewood Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and Chairman of Building and Grounds Committee. Robert has been the inspiration and leading force in the creation of a multipurpose facility at his church which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. His life was a true testament to God.
Lastly, Robert worked for Fitch Creations, the developer of Fearrington Village, for almost 40 years. He was loved by his co-workers and the residents of Fearrington Village alike. As the owner of Fearrington Village stated, "Robert radiated a calm, positive energy that instantly built trust, and an intuitive common sense that will be missed. He was a rock to so many people whose lives he touched."
