Robert Winfield Little, M.D. passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday afternoon, April 5th.
Born June 13, 1946 in Greensboro, NC, Bob grew up in Gibsonville, NC. He was the son of the late Dr. Howard Q.L. Little and the late Sarah Elizabeth Jordan Little.
Bob is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of forty-five years, Linda Howerton Little; his son, Robert Winfield Little, Jr. and his wife Polly of Winter Park, FL; son, Dr. Charles Andrew Little and his wife Jennifer of Davidson, and his daughter, Allison Jordan Little Melton and her husband Chad of Matthews. He was the loving Didi to seven grandchildren, Andrew Gates Little, Charles Ethan Little, Katherine Jordan Little, Laura Coleman Little, William Harrison Melton, Owen Winfield Melton, and Jordan Elizabeth Melton. Other survivors include his sister, Ethel Anne Little Younger of Gibsonville; brother Howard QL Little Jr. of Advance; brother Dr. Edgar Watson Little of Greensboro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
After playing football at Gibsonville High School, Bob attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After receiving his undergraduate degree in 1968, Bob attended the UNC School of Medicine. He then completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at UNC. The family moved to Burlington in 1975 where he practiced pediatrics for thirty-eight years. His nurse and friend Lynne Causey worked with him for thirty-one years until he retired in October 2012.
During his career, he was a member of the Alamance Caswell Medical Society, the North Carolina Medical Society, and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Little was on staff at Alamance Regional Medical Center and served on the Alamance County Board of Health. He was also a member of the ALCO Investment Club.
Bob loved to spend time relaxing at "the farm" with his chocolate lab Nestle. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. After his retirement, he was able to spend more time traveling with his beloved wife Linda. His favorite vacation was their week-long trip to the beach with their children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at Macedonian Lutheran Church, where Dr. Little was a member. Officiating will be the Rev. Suzanne Shoffner. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Dr. Little's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Macedonia Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
