GRAHAM - Mrs. Shirley Ann Ragsdale, 68, of 1249 Quandary Lake Lane, died Feb. 2, 2014, at Alamance-Caswell Hospice.
She was the wife of Mr. Melvin C. Ragsdale of the home, and daughter of Deacon Joe Slade and Pastor Pauline Thompson Slade of Burlington.
She loved to go out to dinner and enjoyed entertainment. She loved to travel and enjoyed taking vacations with her loving husband. She loved to worship God and attend church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her mother and grandchildren. She was very creative and loved to collect ceramic rabbits. She loved everyone and in return was loved by others. She was fun and known as a "Miss DIVA." She will always be remembered as a class act.
Survivors other than her husband and her mother include two daughters, Wanda Sellars (Jasper) of Connecticut and Paula Ragsdale of the home; two grandchildren, Rashad Sellars and Jasmine Sellars; a special son, Shawn Moore (Michelle) of Burlington; four stepsisters, Vanessa McDougal of Durham, N.C. and Patty Majette of California, Gladys Dunn, Josephine Dews (Richard), both of New Jersey; two special aunts, Minister Ethel Woods Daniels of Burlington and Creola Torain of Efland; one uncle, James B. Thompson (Grace) of Stamford, Conn.; special sister-in-law, Regina Cox of California; three brothers-in-law, George Ragsdale (Mary), Wilbur Ragsdale (Ida), both of Connecticut and Alfred Ragsdale (Vera) of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Tonya Rivers (Popsicle); one aunt, Josephine H. Long (James); and a brother-in-law, Henry Ragsdale (Emily).
Public viewing was Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Roy Blackwell Chapel in the Blackwell Funeral Home, 1292 Rauhut St., Burlington.
The wake was from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 in the RBC at Blackwell Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at New Covenant UHC at 1258 Apple St., Burlington. Bishop Harry Cohen will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, prior to the service, with the family arriving at 2 p.m. At other times, friends may visit with the family at the homes of Mr. Melvin Ragsdale, 1249 Quandary Lake Lane, Graham and Pastor Pauline Slade, 652 Greenwood Drive, Burlington.
