BURLINGTON - Mr. Terrell King Duncan, 85, of 2534 Oakcrest Court, Burlington, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at 5:22 a.m. at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of 64 years to Colleen Gregory Duncan, who survives and the son of Baxter R. Duncan and Rachel Lee Duncan, both deceased. He retired as a quality control manager for Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies. After retirement, he was a bus driver for Transervice Charters. He was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and in many other areas of service. He was moderator for the Mt. Zion Baptist Association for many years.
Mr. Duncan served 18 years on the Burlington City School Board where he was chairman for 15 years. He was past president of the N.C. School Board Association for one year and past president and board member for the Alamance County Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) for over 45 years. He was instrumental in the formation of the Ralph Scott Life Services and served as its first president. He was also on the Ralph Scott Life Board for 41 years. One of the apartments at the Ralph Scott group homes was named in his honor. Mr. Duncan served on the Strategic Planning Board for several years with N.C. Group Homes. He worked with the Celebration Singers for 33 years while serving as its treasurer and bus driver. He was on the Governor's Council of North Carolina for a one-year term. He was instrumental in legislation to assist handicapped citizens. Terrell Duncan was a servant of God and a friend to all.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Deborah Duncan Lockey and husband Tim of Newport and Lori Colleen Duncan of the home; a son, Craig Terrell Duncan and wife Peggy of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Alina, Adriel, Chadwick, Cameron, Aaron and Travis; four stepgrandchildren, Andy, Robby, Kelly and Katie; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Coates of Columbia, S.C.; and brother, Pello L. Duncan and wife Marie of Oxford.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda Duncan; daughter-in-law, Susan Duncan; and a brother, Pfc. Eldridge Duncan.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service and also following the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at Newport Baptist Church. Burial in Newport will be private.
