BURLINGTON - Mrs. Theresa S. Greene, 90, of 1004 East Willowbrook Drive, Burlington, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 6:55 p.m. following a brief illness.
A native of Catawba County, she was the wife of the late Dr. Phares Yates Greene and the daughter of Fred H. Sigmon and Willie Gertrude Moser Sigmon, both deceased. She was a very active member of Macedonia Lutheran Church where she taught the Ladies' Sunday School Class. She loved her family and working in her flower garden.
Theresa retired after 37 years of service from the Alamance County Health Department as Director of Nursing. In September of 1984, she received the Margaret B. Doland Award which was presented at the North Carolina Public Health Convention. This prestigious award is reserved for those in the nursing field who demonstrate a high level of practice and contribution. This was the first time an Alamance County Health Department employee had won a statewide award.
Survivors include two sons, James B. Brannock and wife Laura and Fred V. Brannock and wife Tina, all of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Jay and wife Tina, Brian, Jessica, William, Chase, Cody and Rebekah; great-granddaughter, Caroline; and brother, Max E. Sigmon and wife Betty.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice M. Sigmon.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at Macedonia Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. by Pastor Suzanne Shoffner with the family receiving friends following the service at the church.
