Mr. Thomas Melvin Haney

BURLINGTON - Mr. Thomas Melvin Haney, 88, of 2315 Lacy Street, Burlington, died at his residence on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. following several years of declining health.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Ruth C. Haney, who survives and the son of Thomas Franklin Haney and Clara Mae Kimbro Haney Layton, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II as a radar operator on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania. He retired from Burlington Industries and volunteered with his wife to help at the Hospice Flea Market. Melvin was a member of Swepsonville United Methodist Church where he held several offices and enjoyed operating the sound equipment.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Debbie Haney of Burlington and Amy Vaughn and husband David of Elon; and two grandchildren, Chris Vaughn and wife Rebecca and Stephanie Vaughn.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois H. Burke.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jerry Martin with the family receiving friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. At other times, they will be at the residence.
