BURLINGTON - Mr. Vernon Lea Holman of 1005 Madison Street, died July 5, 2014, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell.
He was the husband of Mrs. Linda Harris Holman and the son of Mr. Brodie Holman and Mrs. Berthenia Holman, both deceased.
He loved to shoot pool, fish and watch football and basketball. He was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include daughters, Laverne Rogers of the home, Stephanie (Rodney) of Avon, Mass. and Sherry Leath (Maurice) of Burlington; brothers, Coley Holman (Shirley), Brodie Holman (Jean), Roy Holman (Anne) and Alvin Leath (Polly), all of Burlington; a sister, Doviethenia; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ervin Holman; five brothers, Clyde Wilford Holman, Wesley Holman, Clarence Holman, Delaney Stanfield and James "Tadpole" Holman.
The public Viewing will be Friday, July 11, 2014, beginning at noon in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington, with the wake from 6 until 7 p.m. At other times, the family will greet friends and visitors at the home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at New Birth Baptist Church, 424 S. Flanner Street, Burlington, N.C. 27215. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with the family arriving at 1:50 p.m. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
