ELON, N.C. - Deacon Walter Glenn "Rudy" Shoffner, 67, of 2720 Barrington Road, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
He was the son of the late Mettie Wee Shoffner.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps
in 1967 and served his country proudly. He was deployed to Vietnam and served there for 13 months. He was honorably discharged in 1973.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joan Cummings Shoffner, of the home; daughter, Demetrich P. Shoffner of Burlington, N.C.; stepdaughters, Cynthia Cousin Moore (Andre) of Greensboro, N.C., Audrey Cousin Liggins (Donovan) of Mebane, N.C. and Alanna Cousin of Burlington, N.C.; two grandchildren, Destiny P. Shoffner and Jaylan Andre Moore; six nieces; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Willis and Pollie S. McBride.
The public viewing will be at Lawson's Mortuary, 208 W. Harden Street, Burlington, N.C. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 from 2 until 8 p.m.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Elon First Baptist Church, 113 Lynn Street, Elon, N.C. Mr. Shoffner will be taken to the church to lie in state from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. prior the service. At other times the family will receive visitors at the home. Burial will be in the Gibsonville Town Cemetery, Springwood Street, Gibsonville, N.C.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Lawson Mortuary.
