REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Willa Campbell Gold, 68, of 110 Green Fee Drive, passed away at her home in Reidsville, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, where she was a member and former Sunday School teacher, with the Rev. Heath Lloyd and the Rev. Julius Lambeth officiating. The family will see friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
Born in Burlington, N.C. on Feb. 3, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Raymond A. and Virginia Carden Campbell and she had lived in Reidsville since 1967. Willa was a graduate of Elon College, where she received the Dudley Ray Watson Award as the outstanding student in the Business Administration Department. She continued her education at UNC Greensboro where she received her MS degree in Accounting and practiced as a CPA for 44 years.
Earlier in her career she taught at Rockingham Community College in the Business Department and was the Finance Officer for the Reidsville City School System. Willa was an avid volunteer in her community. She was a volunteer and former Treasurer with the Reidsville United Way and she served on the initial committee to merge the Reidsville, Eden, and Western Rockingham United Ways into the Rockingham Co. United Way. She also tutored high school students.
Willa was very active as a volunteer with the Cancer Center at Wesley Long Hospital, where she served on panels that dealt with sharing professional attitudes and patient care.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas B. Gold III, of the home; son, Thomas Byron Gold IV (Caitlin) of Springfield, Ore.; daughter, Virginia G. Woods (Kelly) of Reidsville; brothers, Richard and Boyd Campbell, both of Burlington; grandchildren, Ashlyn Woods, Averie Woods, both of Reidsville, and Thomas B. Gold V of Springfield, Ore.; sister-in-law, June, of Burlington; brother-in-law, Dr. Walt Gold of Roanoke, Va.; niece, Leslie Vuncannon (Jeremy); nephews, Ben Gold (Erica), Dan Gold (Maggie), Lee Campbell and Christian Gold.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rubin and his staff and to the Graduating Class of 1962 Walter Williams High School " Ladies of 62".
