Mr. William Chadwick "Bill" Stevens

BURLINGTON - William "Bill" Chadwick Stevens, 88, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Hospice House of, Alamance and Caswell Counties after a battle with prostate cancer.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y. April 16, 1926, Mr. Stevens attended City College where he played basketball. When World War II broke out, he served on the USS Panamint as an electronic technician. After the war, he completed his college studies at Hofstra University and received a degree in Applied Physics.
After college, while working for the government as an engineer, he discovered a passion for harness racing. During this time, he met his future wife of 55 years, Agnes Patricia Stevens. Together, they raised four children and have five grandchildren.
Mr. Stevens found an outlet for his love of sports in his retirement in the National Senior Games where he was an active participant in basketball and badminton well into his 80s. He also had a passion for gardening and travel and was a member of the Men's Garden Club for years and travelled all over the world with his wife. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Patricia; daughters, Patricia Kurt of Chapel Hill, Bonnie Stevens of Durham and Holly Moton (Greg) of Cornelius; and son, Robert Stevens (Jennifer) of Huntersville.
A service to honor his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 508 W. Davis Street, Burlington, NC 27215 on Thursday, June 12th at 11 a.m., with reception to follow.
The body will remain at Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington until taken to the cemetery for a private burial service on Thursday morning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 63, P.O. Box 1056, Burlington, NC 27216.
