GOSHEN, Ind. - Wilma "Brownie" Orphelia Yarbrough, 89, of Goshen, Ind., formerly of Atlanta, Ga., died at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 28, 1923 in Lexington, N.C. to Claude and Madge Dunning Brown. She married Robert Heath Yarbrough on Feb. 7, 1946, and he died Nov. 10, 1969.
Wilma was a U.S. Army
(WAC) veteran of World War II
and was discharged March 8, 1946, serving in Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. She retired from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after 30 years, having worked in Atlanta as a lab technician in the influenza and HIV labs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Haver Lee Brown Adams, Pete Brown, Dexter B. Brown and John Charles "JC" Brown.
Survivors include a daughter, Claudia (Bill) Landow of Goshen, Ind.; sons, Robert Yarbrough of Big Canoe, Ga., John Allen (Beth) Yarbrough of Clermont, Ga. and Thomas Lee Yarbrough of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Claude Ellsworth (Ruth) Brown of Burlington, N.C.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, Ga.
