BURLINGTON - Mrs. Deborah Rae Pifer Shearin, 62, of 2032 Walker Ave., Burlington, died at the Hospice Home on June 4, 2014.
A native of Durham, she was the wife of Wallace Millard Shearin and the daughter of Mildred Morgan Pifer and the late Robert Theodore Alston Pifer. Deborah was a music teacher and a special educator in the Alamance-Burlington School system for 33 years. In her retirement, she provided music to preschool children and taught education classes at Alamance Community College. Deborah was a devoted member of First Reformed United Church of Christ where she was a member of the choir and of Circle #4.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by brothers, Martin and Ted Pifer, daughter Laura Rae Brown and husband Joe; son, Robert Millard Shearin and wife Lauren; and granddaughter, Morgan Rae Brown.
Deborah fought a brave and long battle with breast cancer. Her family, her church, and teaching were the greatest joys of her life.
The memorial service will be held at First Reformed United Church of Christ in Burlington on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Phillip Myers with the family receiving friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
To honor Deborah's lifelong commitment to education, a scholarship has been established through the Alamance Community College Foundation. In addition, donations can also be made in her memory to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center or the Hospice Home of Alamance County. Please consider making donations to these causes in lieu of flowers.
