GRAHAM - Mr. Eddie Loy "Buddy" Ivey Jr., 84, a lifelong resident of Alamance County, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the Alamance Regional Medical Center after two months of failing health. He was the son of the late Eddie Loy Ivey Sr. and Sallie Thompson Ivey.
In 1945, after graduating from Graham High School, Buddy started his professional career with the Green and McClure Funeral Service, where he became a licensed funeral director. Buddy served in the United States Air Force from December 1950 until December 1954 and was honorably discharged at the rank of staff seargant.
In 1962, Buddy accepted a job with the Alamance County Sheriff's Office and was assigned the duties of chief deputy in which he served for 30 years with the last six months of his employment as sheriff after the death of Sheriff John H. Stockard. After his retirement in 1989 from the Sheriff's Office, Buddy then returned to the McClure Funeral Service and worked there until his death.
Buddy was a volunteer fireman for the city of Graham from 1959 until 1983 and always enjoyed the Fire Department's annual reunion dinner.
He is survived by the love of his life, Betsy Ann McVey Ivey, of Burlington; granddaughter, Brittany Copeland, of Flowery Branch, Ga.; grandson, Matt Copeland and wife Tiffany, of Winder, Ga.; great-grandson, Durham Copeland, of Winder, Ga.; sister, Carol Coleman, of Mebane, and son-in-law, Mark Copeland, of Jefferson, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Teresa Ivey Copeland; and a sister, Colleen Ivey Foust.
The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home, 1030 S. Main St., Graham, N.C., on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Graham. Officiating will be the Revs. Jim Wall, Howard Thompson and Sheriff Terry Johnson. Burial will follow in the Graham Memorial Park with honors presented by the Alamance County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
