BURLINGTON - Mr. Elbert Griffin, 72, of 611 Holly Street, died Nov. 24, 2012 at Kindred of Durham, N.C.

He was the son of Mr. George Griffin and Mrs. Ida Simpkins Griffin, both deceased, and the husband of Mrs. Mildred Derr Griffin of the home.
Mr. Griffin was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received many honors and medals while in service. He was employed as a postal worker for the United States Postal Service, an avid Duke Basketball fan and loved to deep sea fish before his health declined.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son, Greg Griffin of Apex, N.C.; daughters, Tracy Jeffries of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Robin Jeffries of Graham, N.C.; brother, William Griffin of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Maria Griffin of Bronx, N.Y., Mary Dickerson of Arizona, Ann Griffin of Aiken, S.C. and Helen Griffin of Stone Mountain, Ga.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Caleb Griffin, Frank Griffin, Fred Griffin and Glasgow Griffin.
A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. The Rev. Gary Williams will delver the eulogy. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence.
