GRAHAM, N.C. - Harold Kenneth Horne, 81, of 108 South Melville Street, Graham, N.C. 27253, passed away Feb. 13, 2013 at his home. He was born in Durham, N.C. on Jan. 14, 1932.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Jarrett Horne. They were married June 8, 1956. Also surviving are daughter, Cynthia Lee Zenow of Cornelius, N.C.; son, David D. Horne of Burlington; four grandchildren, Thomas Barbour, Lindsay Barbour, Joe Barbour and Mallory Horne; and brothers, Donald and Sam Horne of Burlington.
Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Anita Louise Horne, Aug. 1959; his parents, Mack and Donie Horne; sister, Erma Bivens; and four brothers, James, Dallas, Bernice, and Merle.
Harold was very proud of his service in the Navy from 1950 to 1954, especially the times he played taps at funerals in Arlington Cemetery and his tour on the USS Roosevelt CV42 and shipmate friends he made, two of whom he kept in contact, David Dodd of Brockway, Pa. and Pete Clough of Burlington.
Harold was a former police officer in Burlington and Graham. He was working for Byrd's Food Store Maintenance Department before retiring.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Graham Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham
