BURLINGTON - Mr. James Thomas "Tommy" Fuqua, 85, of Burlington died at the Hospice Home on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 9:30 a.m.

A native of Burlington, he was the husband of Nadine Smith Fuqua, who survives, and son of Clarence Page Fuqua and Alta Mae Stuart Fuqua, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict in the 424th Charlie Battery Field Artillery Battalion. He was owner and operator of Alamance Packing Company Inc. Tommy was a member of Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church, the Seniors' Golf Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a sister, Shirley F. Howard of Burlington and aunt, Bertha F. Steelman of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Fuqua and brother-in-law, Rock Howard.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Don Pegg with the family receiving friends from 9:30 to10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the residence.
