HAW RIVER - Mr. Luther Zeno Allen, 88, of Haw River died at Liberty Commons on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at 11 a.m.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of 65 years to Marion Loring Allen, who survives, and the son of George Washington Allen and Claudia Clayton Allen, both deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the 28th Infantry Division. He retired from the City of Burlington with 17 years of service as the plumbing and heating inspector. He was the founding president of the Alamance County Plumbing and Heating Association, previously in business with plumbing sales and service. Luther was a member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and sung in the choir. He was a past member of the Alamance Seniors' Golf Association, loved fishing, gardening, playing the guitar and harmonica.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Annette Allen Whitesell and husband Tommy of Gibsonville; son, Luther Wayne Allen of Burlington; three grandchildren, Michael Robert Crabtree and wife Whitney, Mark Allen Crabtree and Joseph "Joey" Wayne Allen; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Grey Allen and McKenzie Karla Foust. He was the last of 18 siblings.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dedee Lynn Allen; and a daughter-in-law, Karla Grey Allen.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. James Earl Hagwood Jr. with the family receiving friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
