Richard B. Evans, 84, of Mount Gilead, formerly of Burlington, passed away Thursday morning, April 24, 2014, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Sharon Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Harris and the Rev. Lee Edwards will officiate. The family will welcome friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Mount Gilead.
Mr. Evans was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Burlington, N.C. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retiree from Merita Bread Company in Burlington He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Gilead.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Ferrell Evans; one son, Richard Timothy "Tim" Evans and one daughter, Cathy Evans Poole and husband Randy all of the home. Also surviving is his faithful cat Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Norma Hurdle, Patsy Wood and David Evans.
