BURLINGTON - Mr. Robert "Bob" Crawford Jr., 89, died at Twin Lakes Memory Care on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 11 p.m.
Born Sept. 11, 1923 in Paisley, Scotland, he came to America at the age of six and lived in Kearny, N.J. He was the husband of 61 years to the late Alfhild "Ollie" G. Crawford and the son of Robert Crawford and Marion MacMillan Crawford, both deceased. He was a graduate of Alamance Technical College with a degree in Management. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the U.S. Naval Armed Guard. In 1958, he relocated to Burlington, N.C. with Bell Labs with his late wife. He retired from AT&T Technologies as Department Chief of Drafting and Computer Operations and Past President of the N.C. Word Processing Association. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Masons (Master Mason Cincinnati #3) and the Lindsay Scottish Clan, USA.
Bob was a beloved husband, father and "Pop Pop". He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Crawford Hargrave and husband Willie Eugene of Asheboro and Robin Crawford Rash and husband James Edward of Hickory; four grandchildren, Heather Hargrave Dobie and husband Richard Lee of San Antonio, Texas, Allison Hargrave Cook and husband Matthew Christopher of Denver, Grant Crawford Rash and wife Stacee Lutz of Hickory and Erin Lindsay Rash of Charlotte; and four great-grandchildren, Barbara Taylor Cook, William Foster Dobie, Robert Crawford Dobie and Samuel Logan Cook.
The funeral service will be conducted at the May-Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes Community on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. by Dr. Mark Menees, with the family receiving friends from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215; or, Twin Lakes Memory Care, 3810 Heritage Drive, Burlington, NC 27215; or, to , Western Carolina Chapter, 380 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
The family would like to thank all the faithful, caring and nurturing employees of Twin Lakes Community, especially in Memory Care, in Burlington, NC and Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell.
