MEBANE - Ruby Mae Evans, 94, of Mebane, died May 2, 2013 at her home with her family at her bedside.

She was born Oct. 26, 1918 to Rose C. Prather and Parker Prather in Eden, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Evans; mother, Rose Prather and her brother, Marvin Prather. She was an incredibly devoted and loving mother of her two sons, Thomas Evans (Ophelia) and Weldon Evans (Susan). She was also deeply loved by her grandchildren, Lynn Phillips, Gene Evans (Katy), Alexandra Evans and Natalie Evans.
She met her husband Lonnie in Eden, N.C. and after a charming courtship she married him in 1936 and moved to Mebane, N.C. Lonnie and Ruby raised their two sons in Mebane where Ruby was a talented homemaker, gardener and cook who also had wonderful artistic talents. She was very active in the Mebane community in the garden club, Eastside Baptist Church and the Women of the Moose Lodge where she received an award for 50 years of dedicated service.
Ruby was loved by people of all ages. She exemplified kindness, unselfish courage, honesty, generous spirit and compassion for children, people in need and animals. She genuinely touched everyone she met with her delightful sense of humor, loving spirit and love of nature. The legacy of her love will live through all the many lives she touched.
Family and friends will celebrate her life at a visitation on Wednesday, May 8, at McClure Funeral Home from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Chuck Perkins. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Eastside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 637, Mebane, N.C. 27302.
