ELON - Mrs. Vivian Langston Parker, 82, of Cherry Grove Road, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 5, 1931 in Davie County, N.C., the daughter of the late Roy and Gertrude Simler Langston.
She was an active and loving member of the First Baptist Church of Haw River. An avid supporter of the rights of people with disabilities, she was a member of ARC since the early 1950's, helped to start the Special Olympics in Burlington and was active in a number of other programs. She worked as an independent living coordinator with Ralph Scott Life Services for 10 years.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Kenneth R. Parker; sons, Bruce Parker, David Parker and wife Debbie and Jon Parker and wife Kristi; brothers, Robert Langston and Dwight Langston; sisters, Janet Langston and Delores Keane; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Haw River, with the Rev. Derick McKinney and the Rev. Walter Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday in the church sanctuary and at other times at the residence of her son, Jon and Kristi Parker, 152 Huffine Street, Gibsonville, N.C.
