Webb Durham Jr., (better known as "Chip" to his friends), passed away after a sudden illness on Sept. 2, 2013.

Born in 1939 in LaGrange, Georgia, Chip spent most of his life in North Carolina. He was a graduate of Pfeiffer College, veteran of the United States Navy and a cancer survivor. He established his family in Burlington in the mid-1960s, and it was in Burlington that he continued his love for tennis, golf, softball, family and friends.
He leaves behind his sister, Sally Mason of Williamsburg, Virginia; three sons and their wives: Webb Durham III ("Trip") and Caroline Durham of Burlington, NC; Joshua Blake Durham and Lynette Neel of Charlotte, NC; and Zachary Cann Durham and Audrey Durham of Greensboro, NC. His three grandchildren, Blakely Kay Durham, Edward Lawrence Durham and William Neel Durham, all of Charlotte, NC, will deeply miss their "Pops." Family and friends will all remember Chipper's great sense of humor and his always being willing to help a friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, Webb and Nancy Durham, who lived a long and blessed life in Greensboro, NC.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 508 West Davis St., in Burlington, NC. The family will receive friends in the Weatherspoon Room at the church immediately following the service.
