GRANDY, N.C. - Mr. A. F. "Fred" Williams, 92, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at 8:45 a.m. in Elizabeth City, N.C. following a brief illness.
A native of Harnett County, he was raised in Graham, N.C. He was the husband of the late Gladiola Aldridge Williams and the late Kathlene Cruise Williams and the son of Thomas Henry Williams and Reba Elizabeth Wilkins Williams, both deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Corps, serving during World War II. He retired as a small business owner in Norfolk, Va. Fred was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Grandy, N.C.
Survivors include a son, Fred Williams Jr. and wife Rose T. Williams of Waxhaw, N.C.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Williams Johnson and husband Jamie of Raleigh, Michael P. Williams and wife Sarah of Glen Allen, Va. and Emily D. Williams of Arlington, Texas; great-granddaughter, Madeline Charlotte Johnson of Raleigh; and 35 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six siblings.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. C. L. "Tripp" May III. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.
