GIBSONVILLE - Mr. Alton Leon Baker, 85, of Bethel Church Road, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at his home after a sudden illness.
Born in Alamance County, he was the son of the late Willie Frank Baker Sr. and the late Lizzie Davis Baker and was married for over 52 years to Mrs. Kay Reese Baker, who survives. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II. He retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company with over 30 years of service and was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Al was a 32nd Degree Mason and Scottish Rite, a Past Master of Tabasco Lodge #271 in Gibsonville and was a Shriner of the Amran Temple in Greensboro. He loved farming and raised tobacco and cattle for many years.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Quentin Baker and wife Judy of Gibsonville and Johnny Baker of Snow Camp; three grandchildren, Seth, Julie and Jill; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bobby Baker and Willie Baker Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Clara Bradshaw; and a brother, Melvin Baker.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at Bethel Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Sue Flippin. Masonic graveside rites will follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Wednesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the residence.
