HAW RIVER - Mrs. Barbara Tolar Smith, 79, of Haw River, died at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields on Saturday, March 2, 2013.
A native of Rowland, N.C., she was the wife of N. Graham Smith, who survives, and the daughter of James Edgar Tolar and Mary Catherine McKellar, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband, N. Graham Smith, she is survived by three daughters, Penny Smith of the home (Penny's caregivers: Annie Belle White and Crystal Norton), Alice Ray and husband, Phil, of Haw River, and Beth Dunkley and husband, Steve, of Graham; one son, Tripp Smith and wife, Faye, of Graham; two grandchildren, Tolar and Laura Ray of Haw River; and one brother, Ervin Tolar and wife, Carolyn, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Known by many as "Aunt Barbara", she leaves many special nieces and nephews whom she cherished as her own. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce Goude and Lois Altman.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Hawfields Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. David Ealy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 4 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham and at other times will be at the Smith home.
