BURLINGTON - Bernice Aldridge Ray, 85, died suddenly at her residence.

A native of Caswell County, Mrs. Ray was the wife of the late Crawford Ray and the daughter of Ira Aldridge and Mattie Stanfield Aldridge, both deceased. She was a retired executive secretary, working with Holt Hosiery Mills. Bernice was a member of New Life at Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church, having previously served as the church treasurer. She currently served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of the Professional Secretaries Association, the Future Secretaries of America and she was a hospice volunteer.
She is survived by her sons, Kenny Ray and his wife Kathy, of Raleigh; Darrell Ray and wife Susi, of Melbourne, Fla.; and Eric Ray and wife Megan, of Mebane. Also surviving are grandchildren, Quinn Ray, Darrell Ray and Ethan Ray. Bernice was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Miles and Pauline Alford.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Baynes Baptist Church, 1757 Baynes Road, Burlington. The service will be conducted by the Revs. Jimmy Nicholston and Mark Stewart. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
