BURLINGTON - Mrs. Betty Jane Williams Caviness, 83, of Burlington went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
A native of Haw River, N.C., she was the wife of 65 years to William H. "Bill" Caviness, who survives and the daughter of Yancey Clifton Williams and Alice Readling Williams, both deceased. She retired from K-Mart as personnel manager. She was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church.
Betty was the heart and soul of the home and the family. She loved her family and expressed that love by baking our favorite cakes, mending our clothes, sewing new things for us and making wonderful Sunday dinners which was always a lifetime tradition. She loved gardening and watching things grow.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include three daughters, Sandy Sopher (Sam) of Charlotte, Janis Carter of Burlington and Pat Mallas (Chuck) of Charlotte; a son, Steve Caviness (Betsy) of Germantown, Tenn.; grandchildren, Mary Leah Caviness, Carrie Caviness Niolet (Paul), Will Caviness (Vanessa), Elizabeth Mallas, Stacie Mallas, Jay Mallas, Christina Faulkner (Donnie), Maegan Giler (Jimmy) and Luke Sopher; great-grandchildren, Averie, Becca and Louis Niolet, Nicky Giler and Kylie Faulkner; and two sisters, Ruth Smith and Faye Koch.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Margie Stuckey, Eva Hardin, Y. C. Williams Jr., Catherine Williams, James Williams and Donald Williams.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Farron Duncan and the Rev. Dr. Jerry Jackson with the family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Janak Choksi and staff at the Cancer Center and the staff of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their loving kindnesses shown to Betty.
