BURLINGTON - Betty Jean Smith, 84, of Burlington, North Carolina, formerly of Alma, Michigan died on December 8, 2012. She was born August 12, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. Betty lived with her family in Alma, Michigan for more than 35 years. She worked with handicapped children as a secretary in the Intermediate School District in Alma, Michigan for many years. Her interests included her family, reading, spending time with her friends, and antiques. She was a loving mother to three children. Betty was devoted who was married for 53 years. She cared for her husband, Dr. M. J. J. Smith for many years until he passed away on September 7, 2005. Betty is survived by her three children, Scott Smith of Washington Township, Michigan, Carolyn Smith of High Point, North Carolina, Eileen Church and her husband Turner Church of Gibsonville, NC.
