McLEANSVILLE, N.C. - Betty Ray Florance, 79, died at Ashton Place on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at 7:45 a.m.
A native of Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of William Dewey Florance and Vivian Penney Florance, both deceased.
As a longtime resident of Burlington, N.C., Ms. Florance was a homemaker, a caregiver to the young and the elderly and a hostess at the William S. Long Student Center at Elon College. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington and a leader of the church's Girl's Auxiliary. Always possessing a flair for fashion, Ms. Florance was voted "Best Dressed" by her 1952 Walter M. Williams classmates. This same fashion interest led her into some modeling afterwards for Blanchard's Clothing of downtown Burlington.
Survivors include her son, Don Schultz Jr.; and longtime family friend, David Self of Burlington.
A graveside service will be conducted in Pine Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. by Dr. Dale O. Steele.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Wednesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405 or to the Children's Home Society of North Carolina, 604 Meadow Street, Greensboro, NC 27405.
