BURLINGTON, N.C. - Bobby Leon Goodman, age 82, of 1231 Fairview Drive, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Hospice Home.
A native of Dongola, Ill., he was the son of the late John Wesley and Reba Coffman Goodman and husband of Jean Eleanor Goodman, who survives. Bob was a member of Mebane Street Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon in the past. He was a retired Senior Engineer with AT&T, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, an avid tennis player and a member of the Racquet Club. He established station WSOE at Elon University, was a guest columnist at Times-News, a Ham Radio operator and taught Judo at the YMCA, where he was a 3rd degree brown belt.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Eleanor Goodman, of the home; daughters, Suzette Pawson and Sandy Goodman, both of Burlington, Sherry Torgent and husband Doug of Raleigh and Joy Hesman and husband Charles of Greensboro; grandchildren, Lauren and Casey Fonville, Cameron and Cassie Torgent and Gavin Hesman.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Mebane Street Church of Christ by Pastor Terry Rickard. Interment services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the family plot in Alamance Memorial Park. Mr. Goodman will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday and at the residence at other times.
