BURLINGTON - Broddie Millard Whitfield, 79, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Hospice Home after a brief illness. He was born in Person County to the late Charles Dewey and Irene Tatum Whitfield and was married for 57 years to Shirley Aldridge Whitfield, who survives. He retired from AT&T and was a member of McCray Primitive Baptist Church where he also had served as a deacon. Broddie was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Robin Whitfield Mangum, of Greensboro; son, Broddie "Chad" (Michelle) Whitfield, of Burlington; one granddaughter, Ashtyn Michelle Whitfield; and a sister, Edith Chance, of Lynchburg, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Colene W. Yarbrough and Dorothy Lee Gainous.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Elders Ray King and Harold Pittman with interment to follow in Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
