BURLINGTON - Mr. C. Ray Ladd, 83, of 237 Village Court, died at the Heritage Place of the Village at Brookwood on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at 9:45 p.m. after a brief illness.

A native of Gaston County, Ray was the husband of Peg Crumpler Ladd, who survives, and the son of Joseph G. Ladd and Inez Johnson Ladd, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Ordnance Corps stationed in Fort Knox, Ky. He graduated from N.C. State in 1950, and worked in textile engineering from 1953 to 1993. Ray was a member of Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. He enjoyed sailing, golfing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife Peg, of the same residence, survivors include one sister, Billie Smith, of Lancaster, S.C.; and three sons, Charles Ray "Chuck" Ladd, Jr. and wife Elizabeth, of Raleigh; William J. "Bill" Ladd and wife Martha, and son Talis Kiesling, of Wilmington; and Robert C. Ladd, wife Stephanie and daughter Chloe, of Chapel Hill.
The Rev. Adam Shoemaker will conduct a memorial service at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter on Tuesday, March 5, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the service. A private burial will be held before the service.
